First Innings: Windies Batters Light Up Guwahati
Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, India hoped early seam movement would rattle the Caribbean top order.
After Keacy Carty fell early for 9 to Prasidh Krishna, John Campbell joined hands with skipper Shai Hope to launch an assault. Campbell cracked 101 off 68 balls, hammering nine boundaries and five towering sixes.
Once Campbell departed, Amir Jangoo picked up the mantle, producing a blistering 114 from just 77 balls packed with 13 fours and 3 sixes.
Indian seamers found the pitch unforgiving. Debutant Gurnoor Brar finished with 2/96, while Kuldeep Yadav (2/65) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/75) were the only bowlers able to exercise any mid-innings control.
The Chase: Gill and Rohit Make History
Chasing a target that required an initial run-rate of 8.12 per over, India's opening pair took complete charge of the contest.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill tore through the Windies pace pack in the powerplay, putting on a colossal 254-run opening partnership inside 27 overs. Rohit crossed the 12,000-run milestone in ODI cricket on his way to a 75-ball 101, punctuated by 10 boundaries and 6 sixes.
Following Rohit's departure and a cameo from Virat Kohli (29 off 19), Gill shifted into another gear.
The third and final ODI will take place on Saturday, October 3, at the Maharaja Yadvindra Singh PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh.
